I am now a rug hooker!!

My friend Loretta Moore of Hooked on the Lake

very kindly invited me to her home to teach me how to create a Hooked Christmas Tree.
She is a very patient woman!
She very wisely suggested I start with something small.  This is how far I got in about 3 hours.  I was totally hooked...(sorry...:)

I worked away on my tree yesterday at the Nick of Time show in Perth...didn't get much done as we were very busy with lots of people!
This was my view from my booth....
These are my totally wacky owls...and yes....there's Frank the Chipmunk...not sure who the squirrel is!

Cindy Keary was my neighbour and she had fabulous fibre dyed with natural dyes and gorgeous Handspun yarn
Loretta in her booth...busy with a large piece

This is my finished Christmas Tree...mounted on a chair spindle stuck in an old light fixture....Loretta has very cool ways of showing off her creations.  She's inspired me to search out antique shutters, old wooden step ladders and apple crates to show my work on...so much more interesting!
thanks for a lovely day Loretta!!!

Mississauga Weavers and Spinners Guild Workshop

I had the great pleasure of meeting with the Mississauga Weaver's and Spinner's Guild November 26, 2012
We met in the Mississauga Art Gallery...a fabulous place to meet!
After showing a few of my pieces, we got down to work.
Our workshop was to create a penguin Christmas ornament.

these ladies were wonderful and it was SO inspiring to sit amongst the art at the Gallery.  It's attached to the Mississauga City Hall...which is itself a marvel of marble and a huge atrium.

Here's our finished penguins...set upon imaginary ice floes.  Thank you so much, ladies for being such lovely hosts!

"From a Book" Art Show

The Out-of the-Box fibre artists invite you to visit the Stittsville Branch of the Ottawa Public Library (OPL) in the month of November to view their "From a Book" show. Inspired by stories, characters, titles, words, places and shapes found in books, artists have used a variety of techniques and materials to produce a delightful and diverse art show. Books that inspired this show include classic literature, mysteries, science fiction, natural science, children's books, and even Roget's Thesaurus. Quilting, beading, felting, embroidery, mixed media, sculpture, and surface design are among the techniques showcased.

Out-of-the-Box is a group of fibre artists who are passionate about creating innovative, thought-provoking fibre art, and promoting that art in the community. This is their second show at the Stittsville Branch. For more information, visit their website (www.out-of-the-box.org) or that of the Ottawa Public Library (www.biblioottawalibrary.ca). The Stittsville Branch is located at 1637 Stittsville Main Street.

Canada Beading Supply bead challenge

I belong to a group called Out of the Box in Ottawa.  We were given a challenge to create something using 75% of the materials given us from the Canada beading Supply

I chose turquoise and yellow silk along with turquoise and aqua beads

I started by painting a piece of polyester cloth with aquarelle pencil crayons and after staring at the cloth for a long long time I found a dragon.  Much to my dismay, as I was embroidering his scales and ruff, I realised that the crappy piece of fabric wasn't going to cut it in the finished product.
So I cut out the dragon...it wasn't pretty...all those tips and toe nails!!!

I have a wonderful scarf that I cut up to become the background for my dragon.  I will NEVER make the mistake of starting something on a less then appropriate piece of cloth!

Slowly but surely, my old website   www.fibreartbywendo.com is going to be redirected to my blog.  I've added a flirt page and a needle felting page (sorry about the waywardness of the kit images...I can't seem to cut and paste them in a nice neat order!)
Soon I'll have transfered all my webpages over and then I can actually begin updating!
Thanks for your patience!

I'm back after all this time.....

Hey there!  Past time I came back!  I'm trying to redirect my website to my blog and thus actually keep it up to date....please bear with me as I'm new at this and it's frustrating to even figure out which password and username I had
